Kehidupan awal

Ayah dan Ibunya bernama Karen dan Geoff. Dia memiliki dua orang kakak perempuan, yaitu Ruth dan Nicola. Sejak usia empat tahun, Liam diharuskan menjalani tes rutin di rumah sakit karena salah satu ginjalnya tidak berfungsi, yang menyebabkan ia harus menerima 32 suntikan setiap hari walaupun pada saat itu ia masih kanak-kanak. Pada masa sekolah, Liam sangat menyukai olahraga dan bergabung dengan tim olahraga di sekolahnya. Ia kemudian diterima di sebuah tim lari Cross Country Running. Kehidupan awal dan pendidikan

Zayn dibesarkan di East Bowling, di sebelah barat pusat kota Bradford. Dia menempuh pendidikan dasarnya di Lower Fields Primary School dan melanjutkan ke Tong High School, sebuah sekolah negeri yang komprehensif di Bradford.  Sebelum pindah kesana, Zayn sudah pindah sekolah dua kali karena dia merasa tidak cocok dengan sekolah-sekolahnya yang sebelumnya. Barulah setelah dia pindah Tong, ia menemukan kecocokan itu dan mulai fokus pada bakatnya. Saat mengikuti The X Factor, kakeknya, Walter meninggal dunia. Zayn memiliki tato berupa nama kakeknya dalam bahasa Arab di dadanya.

The X Factor

Saat audisi The X Factor, Zayn mengungkapkan motivasinya mengikuti acara itu adalah untuk mencari pengalaman. Menurutnya, urban music adalah faktor utama yang mempengaruhi karir bermusiknya yang bergenre R&B dan Rap. Dalam audisi X Factor, Zayn membawakan lagu R&B milik Mario yang berjudul "Let Me Love You". Dia merupakan personil One Direction yang dicap sebagai "kolaborator impian" oleh beberapa artis-artis dunia, salah satunya Bruno Mars. Zayn pernah berkencan dengan rekannya sesama kontestan X Factor, Rebecca Ferguson. Hubungan ini menuai kontroversi karena usia mereka yang terpaut enam tahun. Hubungan ini cuma bertahan empat bulan dan berakhir pada bulan November 2011. Zayn adalah seorang perokok berat. Pada bulan Agustus 2011, ia menyatakan keinginannya untuk berhenti merokok, meskipun itu sangat sulit baginya.

Tato

Zayn adalah penggemar rajah tubuh, ia punya tujuh tato ditubuhnya; tato berbentuk "Yin Yang" di pergelangan tangan, gambar jari bersilang di lengan bawah, nama kakeknya dalam tulisan arab di bagian dada, sebuah simbol Jepang yang mempunyai arti born lucky, gambar hati di bagian perut, gambar daun pakis berwarna perak yang merupakan simbol negara Selandia Baru di leher belakang dan terakhir tato berbentuk epigraf di bagian tulang selangkanya.

Agama

Bulan Juni 2012, Zayn memposting tweet: "La ila ha ill lalla ho muhammed door rasoolalah" yang maknanya merupakan deklarasi iman dari seorang muslim. Tweet ini menuai kritik dari beberapa kalangan anti-muslim di Eropa dan Amerika, salah satunya Debbie Schlussel. "Ia menggunakan pengaruhnya untuk menyebarkan agama Islam pada para penggemarnya, dan berusaha membuat mereka pindah agama. Itu berbahaya," tulis Debbie dalam blognya. Sementara itu, Zayn dipuji oleh para muslim lain di industri hiburan Eropa dan Amerika. Wajahat Ali, seorang penulis skenario muslim dari San Fransisco menyebutkan bahwa kesuksesan Zayn justru dapat memperbaiki nama baik Islam di dunia barat. "Dia menunjukkan bahwa seseorang dapat dihargai karena bakatnya, dan ia tak akan diasingkan hanya karena ia seorang muslim." Zudhi Jasser, seorang aktivis muslim di Amerika, juga mendukung Zayn yang berani memproklamasikan keislamannya di dunia barat yang terkenal diskriminatif pada muslim. Namun ia mengingatkan bahwa muslim yang konservatif mungkin justru akan ikut mengecam Zayn karena tato dan tindikan di kupingnya.

Kehidupan asmara

Setelah sempat beberapa kali digosipkan menjalin hubungan dengan anggota girlband Little Mix; Perrie Edwards, pada bulan Mei 2012 Zayn akhirnya mengkonfirmasi kepada media kalau ia dan Perrie Edwards memang berpacaran. Pada Januari 2013, Zayn Malik diguncang kabar perselingkuhan dirinya dengan seorang pelayan bernama Courtney Webb dan Zayn juga dikabarkan melakukan hubungan seksual dengan Courtney Webb. Pada hari minggu tanggal 27 Januari 2013 setelah menghadiri acara penghargaan musik NRJ Awards 2013 di Perancis, Zayn segera kembali ke Inggris dan bertemu dengan Perrie Edwards untuk membahas mengenai hubungan mereka.

Ibunya bernama Maura Gallagher dan ayahnya Bobby Horan. Dia memiliki seorang kakak bernama Greg. Orang tua nya bercerai saat ia berusia lima tahun. Setelah itu, Niall dan kakaknya hidup berpindah-pindah antara rumah ibu dan rumah ayahnya. Ibunya menikah lagi dengan seorang pria bernama Chris dan pindah ke Edgeworthstown, County Longford. Dia bersekolah di Coláiste Mhuire, sebuah sekolah kristen di Irlandia. Di sekolah, Niall bergabung dengan tim paduan suara sekolah yang tampil setiap hari Natal. Sebelum mengikuti The X Factor, dia sudah tampil di beberapa tempat di Irlandia. Niall sudah mahir bermain gitar sejak kecil. Kehidupan Asmara

Bulan Juni 2012, gara-gara saling mengirimkan tweet mesra di Twitter, Niall digosipkan menjalin hubungan khusus dengan Demi Lovato. Niall mengakui bahwa memang ada kedekatan khusus antara dirinya dan Demi. Namun dia tak menyebut hubungan mereka pacaran. One Direction

One Direction adalah grup penyanyi pria asal Inggris-Irlandia yang terbentuk di London pada tahun 2010. Grup ini beranggotakan Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles dan Louis Tomlinson. One Direction dikontrak oleh Syco Records, label rekaman milik Simon Cowell, setelah menjadi juara ketiga dalam ajang pencarian bakat The X Factor musim ke-7 pada tahun 2010. Setelah sukses di Inggris, One Direction kemudian dikontrak oleh label rekaman asal Amerika Utara, Columbia Records pada tahun 2011.

Pada bulan November 2011, One Direction merilis album pertama mereka yang bertajuk "Up All Night". Album tersebut menjadi album dengan penjualan tercepat pada tahun 2011 di Inggris. Pada tahun yang sama, di Amerika Serikat, album mereka juga sukses bertengger di posisi puncak Billboard 200. "Up All Night" menguasai sepuluh besar UK Singles Chart dengan singel perdana "What Makes You Beautiful". Lewat singel ini, One Direction berhasil memenangkan Best British Single (singel Britania Raya terbaik) di ajang BRIT Awards tahun 2012. One Direction juga sukses menjual singel tersebut secara digital dengan total unduhan sebanyak 2.060.303. Album kedua mereka yang bertajuk "Take Me Home" dirilis pada tanggal 12 November 2012. Sementara itu, tur dunia One Direction dijadwalkan akan berlangsung pada tahun 2013. Tur ini akan dimulai dari kota-kota di Inggris dan Irlandia kemudian dilanjutkan ke negara-negara di Amerika Utara dan Australasia.

Atas kesuksesannya ini, One Direction dikatakan sebagai pemicu kebangkitan kembali era boy band Eropa yang sebelumnya pernah berjaya pada tahun 1990-an. One Direction juga dilabeli sebagai gelombang baru "Invasi Britania" (British Invasion) yang melanda Amerika Serikat, mengikuti jejak The Beatles pada tahun 1960-an. Di Indonesia, meskipun sedang dilanda histeria terhadap boy band asal Korea Selatan, gaung boy band ini juga sangat kencang terdengar.
